There was an interesting article in the Palm Beach Post on Sunday entitled “State holds millions in unclaimed property”. Of course, I had to read it. According to the article the state of Florida is holding about $1 billion worth of unclaimed property. This property can be anything from telephone company refunds, uncashed paychecks or the contents of safe deposit boxes that have not been touched in years. Any unclaimed cash is simply held until it is claimed and the interest is goes toward education.

Think you might be one of the lucky Floridians with unclaimed property? Check out the Florida Department of Financial Services Bureau of Unclaimed Property website. I did, and no, I was not one of the lucky ones, but I did find something for another family member!

Are you fairly new to the state or are you reading this from another state? There is another website officially endorsed by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) containing the official collective records from most state unclaimed property programs. Check it out! After all, what do you have to lose. I understand (according to the Post) a man in Sarasota had $300,000 returned!!!!
